SMART Healthcare Services for Vulnerable Households
The SAJIDA Foundation, in collaboration with Cordaid, piloted an innovative health-insurance-based model combined with health awareness initiatives to support vulnerable households in peri-urban Sunamganj. This project focused on improving access to healthcare for extreme poor families in the region.
Baseline and Endline Studies
To measure the program’s impact, we conducted baseline and endline studies, assessing healthcare infrastructure, health issues, healthcare needs, and health-seeking behaviors of the target population.
Community-Centric Approach
Our team prioritized building trust and fostering cooperation within local communities. By conducting household surveys and engaging community leaders, we collected detailed and meaningful insights.
Comprehensive Data Collection
Using a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, including structured questionnaires and focus group discussions, we gathered in-depth data on:
- Sexual and reproductive health rights
- General healthcare
- Healthcare costs
- Child health and nutrition
Overcoming Logistical Challenges
The remote and flood-prone terrain of Sunamganj posed significant logistical challenges. To address these, we:
- Used local transportation
- Partnered with local guides
- Leveraged community networks to access hard-to-reach areas
High Follow-Up Success
Our team achieved a high participant follow-up rate by successfully tracking and re-interviewing individuals from the baseline study.
Evidence-Based Insights
We employed standard statistical tests to analyze the collected data, identifying statistically significant differences between treatment and control groups. This rigorous analysis provided robust evidence of the program’s impact on improving healthcare access and outcomes for vulnerable households.
This project highlights the potential of innovative healthcare models to address the needs of underserved communities in challenging environments.
